Thinking of comment 68, I could make an interim patch which only adds core/release and core/updates repos to update-tagged repos for updates.

This is not a complete solution, since it wouldn't entirely take care of nonfree and tainted. This still would mean that dependancies for nonfree in nonfree/release and nonfree/updates would still have to be linked.
Similarly for tainted.
However linking for dependancies in core/release and core/updates would no longer be necessary (for any package).
I'm not sure, but this interim solution could already be essentially ready. (i.e, 2-minute change + preliminary testing.)
