The general rule is that for version comparison, we tend to follow the debian scheme (http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html). I don't know the rpm version comparison code well enough to know how this will translate there.

What examples would you want to see added to the sequence to 100% clarify the situation?
