Bug Description

I launched rhythmbox and started playing some music. Everything seemed to work normally and the music played as expected. The Software didn't crash either. I just got a pop-up saying there was a segfault in rhythmbox metadata. It had no adverse effects on the actual program though.

Marking this as a security vulnerability because receiving an audio file and adding it to a directory monitored by rythmbox could trigger this bug that might be exploited to execute arbitrary code.

1) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1 (nightly build)

2) rhythmbox: Installiert: 2.96-0ubuntu3

3) I marked 10 mp3 files in a nautilus folder and let it rhythmbox play with the rightclick menu.

4) After starting rhythmbox, it went on importing my music directory, while also starting to play the selected music files. I clicked on the queue to see the files - and that resulted in a crash, showing up this bug report. I hope, the description helps.

In my case, on updated 12.04 beta 2, it happened while importing songs to the library for the first time. In this case from a Sansa Clip+ mp3 player.

ubuntu beta2 is the most unstable lts release I ever tested. For the last 2 hours I reported crashs in compiz, in unity, in unity 2d, in banshee and now in rhythmbox, then arista transcoder does output 0byte files, vmwareplayer does not install and hundreds of small issues all over the place.

My oh my .. a beta2 should not have so many and such severe bugs that no music app will work and that the desktop crashes for no reasons .. the release will be a disaster. In one months this can't be fixed all.

10.0.4 was so good. I hate to say this but everything ubuntu did after this is a epic failure. I so hoped for 1204 being a LTS that it will work. I do not see that and I do not see it for April 26th either.

Error occured while scanning large music folder on external drive (hard-mounted via fstab, if that matters)

Happened when changing ID3 tags with EasyTag for an album while Rhythmbox was still open which created an importation error when importing the folder again to my music collection.
