Forwarded bug from Debian:

Package: rednotebook
Version: 0.9.2-1
Severity: wishlist

I'm submitting this here, an hoping that the Debian maintainer will forward it
as a wishlist item to wherever appropriate.

Say that I have written an entry on some day, and tagged it e.g. with the tag
"work", this tag. The the tag "work" should be available on the drop-down menu
that appears when assigning a tag for a different text entry. Otherwise the user
needs to write the same tag name many times.

Or it should at least be possible to choose that a tag can be globally abailable
of this drop-down menu.

Best regards
Torquil Sørensen

Either I don't understand the request correctly or this functionality is already implemented. When I add the tag "Work" to a day, then navigate to a new day, the tag "Work" appears in the drop-down menu.

To reproduce the problem;
1) Click the Tag or Annotate buttons (either will do)
2) A dialogue box titled 'New Entry' appears
3) The dropdown on the first line does show a list of all categories that have been used in other entries but the dropbox on the second line (called 'Write Entry' does not. For example, if I have a category called 'Years', and I have made entries that refer to years 1956 and 1957, I can write a new entry and see 'Years' in the first dropdown box, but I cannot see 1956 and 1957 in the second one. I can only enter them by hand, with the risk of inconsistent entries.

I think in your case using the category "Tags" better fits your needs. Have a look at the documentation:
http://rednotebook.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/rednotebook/trunk/doc/help.html#toc3

Categories are used for content, not for categorization. Tags however categorize entries.

You can use the Tags 1956 and 1957. They will show up automatically in the drop down list.
