Actually I'd say the tax I pay is broadly the same as what I did in the UK, maybe a little less overall, but not massively so.
The difference is that in the US the government is taking the money to pay for a bloated and inefficient military and huge amounts of corporate welfare - far more than the UK does.
And the US spends more as a society on healthcare than just about anywhere else and yet has the worst outcomes of any industrialized country, and some less developed ones! Heckuva job guys!
