Hhhmmm, the thing is that Acrobat probably implements the form fields "inline", i.e. as part of the PDF document whereas I chose to separate presentation and editing (as with the annotations). The reason is that I don't think matching their inline appearance will work using Qt controls and I do not feel like implementing my own controls mimicking the PDF rendering. Hence the current implementation makes a clear cut between inline presentation and editing using native Qt controls in pop-up window.

So, long story short, it's a design choice...
