I tested Laszlo's patch against this scenario and it eliminated the error.

However, I'm still not convinced that it's needed.

Let's start with a basic question: Does it make sense for there to be more than one MMIO "bus" on a system?

After all, it's NOT a physical bus and there's only one set of physical memory (at least on anything we're currently modelling).

Would it make as much sense to disallow a second virtio-mmio bus??
