Hi Waldemar,
An update on this bug: it seems there is a problem with QEMU's block AIO code which seems to be easily triggerable with virtio. I think it's be identified within recent discussions on the mailing list, but I don't believe a patch has been committed to resolve the issue.
Note that as of QEMU 2.1, the sun4u IOMMU is now implemented in QEMU and so you should be able to boot Linux with the standard cmd646 driver as per your original attempt above. Please can you try this and see if you still experience the deadlock?
