re: your questions:

Glance already supports multiple strategies -- though only one strategy (token) is actually included in the Glance distribution. So, I think the answer is "support token auth as #1 priority, making the code as pluggable as possible"...

I could definitely go with just OS_USER_ID instead of having AUTH in the name... no problems there.
