Bug Description

Please backport boinc 7.0.27+dfsg-3 (universe) from quantal to precise.

Reason for the backport:
========================
This will fix the issues in Bug #991179 for people using Precise. The bug was originally filed to be fixed in Precise, but in my BugSquad duties, I intercepted this and made a note that an SRU would not be viable for version changes. A discussion later in #ubuntu-motu came up with the solution of fixing in Quantal, and then backporting to make this fix available to Precise.

Testing:
========
Testing will be done at a later time, as the package is confirmed to build in pbuilder, but is pending builds in a PPA (for ease of installation).

Items marked with an [X] have been confirmed/tested.

* precise:
[X] Package builds without modification
[ ] boinc-manager installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-dbg installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-cgi-stripchart installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-client installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-dev installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-app-examples installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-server-maker installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-nvidia-cuda installs cleanly and runs
[ ] boinc-amd-opencl installs cleanly and runs

Reverse dependencies:
=====================
The following reverse-dependencies need to be tested against the new version of boinc. For reverse-build-dependencies (-Indep), please test that the package still builds against the new boinc. For reverse-dependencies, please test that the version of the package currently in the release still works with the new boinc installed. Reverse- Recommends, Suggests, and Enhances don't need to be tested, and are listed for completeness-sake.

Micah, just for a verification, your 7.0.24+dfsg-1ubuntu0.1~ubuntu12.04.1~ppa1 does not seem to have the "computation error bug" found here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+bug/991179

Thanks Dave for the verification, that just leaves one question. Is boinc usable in precise with my patch? (We can still do this backport for new features in 7.0.27)

was this build(7.0.24+dfsg-1ubuntu0.1~ubuntu12.04.1~ppa1) with your patch??

I tested it in precise 64... Still running it actually. Some verified work units as well. :-)

(side note, I do not crunch data with a GPU and therefore cannot guarantee anything on that end, all I can say is there is no computation error bug)

Yes, it actually drops a patch that apparently was causing the issue. I think what I'll do is SRU the patch and we'll process the backport as well for people that want .27
Is there an existing build for testing or should I throw one up?

Dave, any change you could add a test case to Bug #991179 so I can SRU the fix?

I apologize, I'm kinda new here at launchpad. Can you elaborate on what you mean about "add a test case"

Your test build Micah was a 7.0.24. I remember someone saying we didn't want a version here that wasn't in debian, correct? Debian has no 7.0.24 version... Not anymore anyways.

Please see bug 1009536 - we are working to get a SRU for boinc into Ubuntu Precise.

Given that, a backport would not be necessary.

OK, please then reopen if you need the backport after all.
