Somebody needs to find out if Launchpad can merge translations back to git master, that's a requirement. I don't understand the configuration and I'm not keen on blindly trying out something I may be unable to change back.
Transifex can easily be enabled, I just have to ask somebody to do it. I've made good experiences with it.
An interesting thought might even be to use both, if possible, so if for example there are no Bulgarian translators on Launchpad, the according team can do it on Transifex. Just a random example.
I expect a release is needed when translations are enabled, so that translators can actually test the results.
If Transifex is easier to set up and more convenient, that should be the way.
Translations in Launchpad could be set up in the future,if needed, or translation templates could be manually uploaded to Launchpad Translations.
Launchpad can merge translations back into bzr for sure, I'm not sure about
git. However, even if you have to copy translations manually from time to
time, LP is still the way to go. I can personally guarantee that if we do
the translations on LP, we will get 4-5 times more translations, 2-3 times
more quickly. That is where the OMG translating crowd is comfortable, and LP
treats translators better than any other tool (as far as making it stupidly
easy for them).
So we have two options, Launchpad and Transifex.
