Bug Description
In Pinta 0.8 I use a lot of "New" button from toolbar and also <Ctrl>+N, but what I don't like is that window asking me the same "pixel width/height" question every time I open a new picture. I think users almost never change the size of the picture. Just like in a Microsoft Word (or some similar program), when you click on new icon from toolbar the new document just opens.
I also see this option just like a printing option from any other program, when you click on Print from toolbar, document just gets printed to the default printer, but if you select File | Print then new window opens.
What I would like to do is, just make Pinta default action for 99% of the actions end-user is trying to do. End leave the 1% option to go to File | New when new size is required.
I suggest:
- New button from toolbar: no question should be asked just open new image with the last selected width/height
- <Ctrl>+N: the same action as above
- File | New: ask the question about width/height size (just like it is now).
I believe you are incorrect in your assessment that 99% of users don't care what size their picture is.
I don't think this will ever be in the default Pinta, however I fully intend for Pinta's extension system to be flexible enough to add/remove/ intercept toolbar buttons and menus and handle them however they wish. Once that is available, an extension could create the behavior you want.
