I work looking at this. Not sure if this should be implemented as an extension or as part of codebase. I was thinking extension because I am reusing code snippets which are LGPL. I am not sure about license compatibilities between LGPL and MIT.
Since MIT license should not limit what kind of licensed code can link to it at runtime, I think addin/extension should be a safe bet
