There isn't a separate branch, it was just the menu item that was turned off to hide the incomplete functionality (https://github.com/PintaProject/Pinta/blob/master/Pinta/Actions/File/PrintDocumentAction.cs)
I don't think it's likely any easier to implement PDF saving - it would make more sense to just spend some development time implementing the things that aren't currently being handled correctly from the GTK printing functionality, like scaling
