I cant' reproduce this in latest Pinta 1.7-development.

It may well be the problem, because Adobe Reader didn't actually copy any image, so Pinta is correct on reporting there is no image to be pasted.

Can you please test this in latest Pinta development 1.7: https://www.pinta-project.com/releases/
and also try if you can paste image to some other image editing tool.
