I am not experiencing this kind of problem and I use Pinta 1.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7. Maybe this problem is your system specific. Can you please be so kind and provide more info.
1. What is your Pinta version (menu Help | About). If you are using some old version please install latest stable: www.pinta-project.com/releases
2. Also provide info what is your operating system and version.
3. Is this problem happening EVERY time? Like starting Pinta and closing it without any other action? If no, then we need exact step-by-step instructions how to trigger the crash.

I use a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 10 with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The exact step by step instructions to trigger the error are:
1.Open pinta
2.Click the open button
3.Select an image file
4.Draw on the image a little bit
5.Click file and then click exit OR click the X button.
6.Select any option in the save dialog but not cancel.
Those are the steps to trigger the error. My pinta version is 1.3. Is this enough?

I use Pinta 1.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and I can't reproduce this problem. This is a bug in Pinta 1.3 or there is something specific in your system. I strongly suggest you to upgrade to Pinta 1.6, because it is way way way more stable then any previous version. See installation instructions: http://pinta-project.com/howto/installing-pinta

Please report back if problem is solved in Pinta 1.6.
