It looks like its not the new mysql version. It appears to be this kernel "kernel-3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.x86_64" rolling back to "kernel-3.10.0-693.11.1.el7.x86_64" seems to have resolved the problems. This is on CentOS Linux release 7.4.1708 (Core)
