Bug Description

Text names for the default items in the sidebar are corrupt. User-added items appear fine. Everything looks fine in Thunar. I've had this issue for several months with Marlin.

I can confirm this issue on Fedora linux with the latest snapshot.

Gtk bookmarks are fine, all other items in a sidebar are "corrupted", but just the names.
When you click to make a tab, tab label ends up fine, tooltips in the sidebar are also fine.
Additionally when you mount some drive it will have a proper name too.

This same issue on Archlinux, but just when build in 32bits, everything is fine when build for 64

I downloaded VmWare tools, installed it and then put the archive into trash. Some time later (after a restart, multiple package installs etc) I've decided to empty the trash. After clicking the button the following similar text corruption showed up in the sidebar:

This is a problem with character encoding. GTK+ expects text to be encoded in UTF-8, while Files/Marlin are using the system's native encoding, producing this kind of arbitrary failures. A call to g_locale_to_utf8() would be enough to fix filenames.
