It appears the reason for the sync service failing to start is a leftover upstart file from the old version in ~/.config/upstart/OwncloudSyncd.conf. It contains a wrong path, as @Luksus describes here:

Fixing the path makes the sync daemon start.

Is there any chance of getting this fix into OpenStore?
