OK so I created a patch based on #2 and #3. Can anyone here review this or I may need to invite a few heat cores to ask them to review the change.
I'll add a config option to heat to restore the format function, once this is merged and we get this version in u-c.
Note that the latest yaql requires python >= 3.8, so the fix can't be backported to older versions which still support 3.6/3.7 (stable/zed requires python >= 3.8 so this may not be a problem).
