http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-scripts is a specific citation for Debian's policy. In principle I support removing the language-specific extensions, but a patch for OpenSRF to resolve this will ideally come with patches to Evergreen and Evergreen's manual and be timed so that it strikes if/when a new Evergreen release requires a new OpenSRF release.
