More information on this. I have tried this sequence using KOI8-R
locale ( LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R ). With this locale the preview doesn't
crash, it just displays "INVALID" with a large font in the preview
window.

However, putting clip to the timeline and trying to move cursor
produces same crash as before.
