Bug Description

Overview: This bug is very similar to bug #577821 (except different version, different effect). While using OpenShot v1.4.0, I tried to add the Cartoon effect to a video (just to mess around) and, after adding the effect and attempting to preview, OpenShot crashes with 'Segmentation Fault'.

System Information:
- Linux Distribution and Version: ArchLinux 3.1.1-1-ARCH (though I don't know how relevant this is because of the rolling releases)
- Installation Method: pacman
- Version of OpenShot: 1.4.0

Reproduce Steps:
- Run 'openshot' from the terminal.
- In the 'Project Files' tab, right click and select 'Import Files'.
- Browse to the file you want to work with (I used an MP4) and click Open. The video appears in the list.
- Drag the video to track 1 (I dragged it slightly off start to illustrate my point).
- Change to the 'Effects' tab.
- Drag the Cartoon effect to the video on track 1.
- Click Play in the Video Preview window. The video will play (blank) until it reaches the clip with the effect.
- Note the 'Segmentation Fault' that occurs.

I've attached the output from the above recreate where I ran 'openshot > openshot_bug_output.txt 2>&1' and recreated the problem. I attempted to use the openshot debug script, but this appears to be specifically for Debian-based distributions (it was looking for dpkg on my system).

I can provide the video that I used if you'd like (though it is 60MB). I assume this probably has something to do with the bug, so I wanted to offer. Just as a note, this is the output of 'file' on the video:

VID_20110918_154608.m4v.mp4: ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, version 1

I previously used ffmpeg on this file because it came from my Android (2.3.4) phone from the Camera app and, by default, those videos appear to have a variable bit-rate. I, unfortunately, don't remember the settings I used to recreate it though!

What version of frei0r-plugins and MLT do you have? Is this the only effect that produces a crash? Can you try it with another type of file?

I'm using frei0r-plugins v1.3-2 and mlt 0.7.6-1.

I did a bit more testing on this based on your questions about the bug:

* - This is not the only effect that will produce the crash. I tried to use Color Distance with it and it also causes the same crash. However, please see my next note.
* - This problem is NOT reproducible if I use the Blur effect first and THEN apply the Cartoon. I was able to stack multiple effects, preview them, and experience no crash. However, if Cartoon (or Color Distance) is the only effect on the video, the crash occurs.

I found another video on my system that I shot using my handheld camcorder. The output of 'file' on this video is below:

VR_MOVIE.VRO: MPEG sequence, v2, program multiplex

I did not experience the crash with the Cartoon effect with this video as I did with the other.
