I have the same issue.

Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
ffmpeg: 2.8.11-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
MLT: 6.0.-2

I've read that updating MLT will resolve the issue, but those threads are also several years old, so my version is already newer than the newest available at time the threads were made.
