Bug Description

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04

2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc
libreoffice-calc:
  Installed: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 0

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages

apt-cache policy unoconv
unoconv:
  Installed: 0.3-6
  Candidate: 0.3-6
  Version table:
 *** 0.3-6 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/universe i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/38211/+attachment/2142831/+files/example.odt && unoconv --listener && unoconv -f txt example.odt && lowriter -nologo example.txt example.odt

the bullets in example.odt are converted to asterisks in the example.txt file, as Word does it if converted from .doc to .txt.

4) What happens instead is the bullets are removed but not replaced with asterisks. The file was created opening a blank document then entering the following 3 lines:
list item one
list item two
list item three

Highlight the three lines and click the "Bullets" button on the toolbar to make the list bulleted. Save as .odt file.

Problem is always related to default second level bullet in a Word document .DOC
and is much more severe than just wit text documents... And it's incredibly annoying
After reopening and especially after being edited by someone else in Office XP the bullet character is simply replaced

Yes, I have this same problem but it is with .rtf instead of just text. With RTFs it doesn't delete all the bullets but seems to do it at random. I have created the same document with multiple bulltets (some of them under other bullets) and some of they will be removed to nothing, others will have their places changes and so forth.

I never have seen such a bullet to asterisks conversion in LibO or OOo, OOo1.1.4. 3.4, 3.4-dev also ignore bullets during 'Save as .txt'.

The current behavior is unexpected and unsatisfying, numbered lists will be converted, so I believe it should be not too difficult to find a solution for lists with bullets.

Currently we have in 'Tools > AutoCorrect Options > Options ' "Apply numbering - symbol: *" + "Replace bullets with: *.

I believe it never can be wrong to save bullets as "*" or "-" for text documents.
Sounds like an enhancement, but IMHO the difference to the numbering export handling makes it a bug.

There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
