You can try to boot into the recovery mode (netroot !) and uninstall that particular package with "sudo apt-get purge packagename" and to "sudo dpkg --configure -a" if necessary due to the upgrade interruption. Maybe yo'll find an upgraded package of that one on "http://packages.ubuntu.com". Search for the Karmic package there.
