This is a serious accessibility bug (when using Writer on Windows) for folk with visual impairments who use a Windows High-Contrast Colour theme and need specific background and text colours to read comfortably. It looks as if this bug was introduced in LibreOffice 4.1. It definitely doesn't occur with LibreOffice 3.5.
