Ferdinand,

1. There are two widgets to show an image.
  a) the Image Widget with three buttons, Open, Save and Clear.
     This widget shows a scaled image if necessary
  b) the Picture Widget without buttons, but shows the image with the full size.

2. I will fix this point.

3. The preview is now in full size.
   a) a small preview ? we can generate a thumbnail as you tell, but it's very short in time to add this preview in the new version. so I propose you to make a blueprint but for the next release after v5
   b) "open document" ? you can open the file with the button "open".

4. The client tries to use the pdf file with the first viewer. in order, xdg-open, evince, xpdf, gpdf, kpdf, etc...
    Have you installed the xdg-open (use the user's preferences)
