Having the inventory locations in the standard would also allow a nice trick that we use on a project outside OpenERP : we can allow stock moves in the past - if there has been an inventory after the move's date, we don't update the quants, else we do.
Of course it may make the average prices slightly wrong, but most other ERPs have the same problem with this.
