I'm marking this as opinion for the official addons because obviously openerp for the moment is hard-coded for real-time inventory management only, which is very limiting indeed.
The strangest thing is that was once accepted in the official v6.1 then never ported to later versions - no matter...
I'll try to implement Hugh Turner's suggestion for OCB-addons and see what comes out of it.
