Please note that the current behaviour is not a regression but what you propose is a regression:
- in v6.1, you could create an opportunity to "Luc Maurer", "Camptocamp" and quote to "Luc Maurer", "Camptocamp"
- in v7, you could create an opportunity to "Luc Maurer", "Camptocamp" and quote to "Luc Maurer (Camptocamp)" which is exactly the same than in v6.1 (we just avoided the redundancy of data on the company)
- with your merge proposal you can create an opportunity to "Luc Maurer", "Camptocamp" but you can not quote anymore to "Luc Maurer, Camptocamp" --> you quote to "Camptocamp" only and loose the information about who is your contact. So, I think your proposition is a regression for this reason.
