Search query syntax exposed in Open Library is controlled by the field names in the schema. The names in the schema are chosen for development convenience.
I think the query syntax should be defined explicitly and documented instead of it being a side-product of solr schema.
Here is my proposal for query syntax:
title: "Tom Sawyer"
author: "Mark Twain"
author: OL123A
subject: love
place: london
person: "Harry Potter"
publisher: penguin
isbn: 1234567890
lccn: xxx
id: OL12345M
id: OL12345A
id: 1234567890
ebook: yes
ebook: no |
