Confusing quality control

Bug Description

I JUST used oggconvert! Really nice program but for one small confusing aspect: The quality control slider bar needs some sort of indication about 'goodness'. I suggest putting the word 'fair' on one side and 'best' on the other. The default setting is 3 ... it would be nice to know how close to 'best' that setting is ;-)

Hi Tony,

First of all, thanks very much for your contribution!

I'm going to say no though I'm afraid. The reasons are purely aesthetic -- I just think it looks better without a gap between the controls.

I'm willing to accept though that while it's obvious to most people that a quality of 10 is better than 1, it's not obvious to everyone. My preferred method for solving this though would be a tooltip for the two sliders (something along the lines of "1: Worst, 10: Best"). I'll give serious consideration to including this in the next version (i.e. it'll be in if I've read up on the new GTK Tooltip API by then!)

Cheers,

Tristan

I think you should add this new feature:

Slider => Number => little explanation (worst, best, etc ...)

Because some users, like me, work also on really hard stuff like quantizer that works totally in opposite way ...

PS: I have a little question: I don't know how the quality is set, Constant quality, Constant Bitrate ? Is this the same for the audio ?

If it is Bitrate, can you add some way to control it more efficiently ? Like a box to set the bitrate in the advanced settings ?
