I have a sneaking suspicion that based on the way this system is installed the ESP identifies as a BDP not an ESP.
Can you please run
# sudo fwupdtool esp-list --verbose
If my suspicion is correct, you might be able to avoid this problem if you reclassify the BDP as an ESP type partition. It *might* also be worth pushing out such an update to reclassify for any factory shipped machines if that helps.
