I also can confirm this. Unfortunately the problem still persists (Variable binding depth exceeds max-specpdl-size) while opening *.php files, with the latest emacs-snapshot from emacs.orebokech.com version: 23.0.92.1 with nxhtml- 1.76-090226. I really would like to use nxhtml but this makes it impossible, and it seems the problem is still not fixed. I haven't tried compiling emacs from cvs, but that's not real solution anyway.
