Hit on desktop running 14.04 and nvida gtx 780. Was running nvidia-3nvidia-3340 drivers

Fixed by uninstalling nvidia drivers:

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*

Then running the gsettings command from post 11.

Once I was back in, I installed the nvidia drivers via the 'additional drivers' interface.
