The Tuxera FAQ says one cause of this problem is writing to sparse files and/or fragmented volumes.
From the upstream changelog, this has recently been fixed:
"STABLE Version 2010.8.8 (August 8, 2010) * Fixed partially overwriting sparse clusters on highly fragmented volumes. "
You might try installing a more recent upstream NTFS-3g version (2010.8.8 or 2010.10.2) and see if that helps.
Unofficial Ubuntu packages for 2010.8.8 can be found at: https://launchpad.net/~x3lectric/+archive/team-iquik-releases/+packages
I hope we can soon get the latest version into the official Ubuntu channels.
