Hi,

although it its highly unlikely that an incremental backup is the same size as a full one I would still go with the option you suggested.

I think that in the rare occasion of a incremental backup being same or close to the size of a full backup the backup process can still fail (though tar). This would allow the other incremental backups with little changes to proceed.

Just my thought...
