Helen Liu / GuoHui Liu - would it be possible to test the patch but with this line:

return vhd_info_xml.encode('utf8', 'replace')

Replaced with this?

return vhd_info_xml.encode('utf8', 'xmlcharrefreplace')

Does it still fix the bug?
