My bad,

If haven't done so, and if you still have the xorg-edgers ppa installed you need to remove it:

   sudo apt-get install ppa-purge

   sudo ppa-purge

the upgrade should then run smoothly.
After its done, if can't get into the desktop or if you only can run low graphics mode, then you should follow the steps on askUbuntu
