Sorry for taking a little while to check the proposed fix. The boot parameter fixed the issue and the system loaded successfully. I am getting an error "saslauthd start" failed with exit status 95 while booting, and in the upgrade there were some complaints about the keydb for saslauthd. Should I file this as a separate bug?

Also, should I look to make the change to the boot parameter permanent so that I can run the latest version (or can I help in debugging other things around the pci-reprog so that it can get fixed) ... if I need to set the parameter permanently, I am not sure how to do that in the context of apt-clone with grub. Can I just update /boot/grub/menu.lst?
