Comment 2 for bug 881535

Thank you for looking into this Mr. Wilson.

Attached is a screen shot of the problem in Ubuntu 11.10 from a fresh install opening dconf Editor (I actually was never able to get netbook remix working on this computer - Dell Inspiron mini). My screen resolution is 1024x600.

Regards,

Matt

Subject: [Bug 881535] Re: Launched Window Size Exceeds Screen Size (Netbooks)

Thanks  a lot for reporting this, however I was unable to reproduce the
behaviour you describe. When testing, I reduced the resolution of my
display to 800x600 and opened a few of the default apps (Evince, EoG and
Totem, Appearance and Displays), but was able to view the entire window
each time. What I did notice was that some apps were opening in
fullscreen mode, which I assume is what they are designed to do when
their default window size exceeds that of the current display.

I notice that Ubuntu Netbook Remix has been included in this report. UNR
was running an older version of Unity and the Gnome 2.x stack, whereas
Ubuntu 11.10 now runs Gnome 3.x and a radically updated version of
Unity, and UNR has since been discontinued.

Can you please confirm whether or not you are still affected by this bug
on the most up to date version of Ubuntu?

Title:
Launched Window Size Exceeds Screen Size (Netbooks)

Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts:
  Incomplete
Status in Ubuntu Netbook Remix:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Many windows (such as Appearance) will launch to a size that is larger
than a netbook screen. As a result, the user must be creative with
workspace switching in order to press "ok". Further, the window does
not allow resizing, so the user is unable to bring it to a manageable
  size.

I would prefer that no program be allowed to block resizing (or even
set a minimum size), and suggest that launched windows automatically
reduced if any of the corners is going to be off-screen.
