Bug Description

After the install, I only got 800x576 video in xorg, using the non-accelerated VESA driver. apt-get dist-upgrade didn't fix the issue, nor did installing xserver-xorg-video-intel work.

Installing Poulsbo drivers from ubuntu-mobile made acceleration and full native 1024x576 work, as reported here:

http://credentiality2.blogspot.com/2009/08/accelerated-video-on-dell-mini-10-with.html

However now I get frequent system freezes.

Bug 393290 appears to be related:

(I'll update again if the workaround fails for me.)

The workaround works great; no more video lockups.

Intel has not released drivers supporting Poulsbo for Karmic, and their last update barely supported Jaunty. Until Intel updates us with drivers, this will remain unsupported. The problem is that the PSB drivers forked from the main driver api and need to be rewritten to work with the new kernel framework.

I'm curious, do the inspiron 1010s that came from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed have generic drivers.

It seems there is now a PPA to workaround this issue:
