I think the decision to use 3D acceleration for netbook-launcher was ill-devised, given that a large number of netbooks running a large family of VIA chipsets do not have 3D acceleration, and probably won't have it for another few years. It is embarassing to suggest UNR to a friend and then see him struggle with 5 seconds delays to highlight an element in netbook-launcher.
I suggest you revisit your decision and rewrite netbook-launcher without 3D acceleration (or at least provide a fallback when there is no DRI).
