Bug Description

On my MX4, Nearby Scope is not working since OTA-13: It always shows "refresh location by pulling down the center of the screen". When you do that, the location indicator lights up, but Nearby scope does not update at all. It still shows "refresh location".

Hi,

Sorry you are having this problem. I suspect the issue is not with the Nearby scope. It merely receives location information. Nearby scope does require that:
* the shell knows the location
* Nearby scope settings have Location enabled
Else it shows the location needed message;

I just tried com.canonical.unity-scope-nearby 4.9.1 and I don't have this issue (normal results display).

Perhaps rebooting will restart the location stuff and "fix" nearby for you?

Cheers

Sorry, rebooting does not solve the problem. I have also tried deinstalling and reinstalling the nearby scope, but to no effect.

Rüdiger,

Can you please verify that location is enabled in general settings and for the nearby scope itself.

Helly Kyle, thanks for your help. Here is what I found during the last days:
- In contrast to what I wrote in comment 3, rebooting my phone the next time made nearby scope work.
- However, when I checked again today, I found it broken again -- it always showed the "refresh" message. (And yes, location service is enabled, see below).
- So I tried if rebooting would fix it again: yes.
Right now it works, but I suspect it will break again after some time.

Regarding location service:
- enabled in general settings
- enabled for "Scopes" -- there is no special entry for "nearby scope"
- BUT: my list of apps in the location settings looks slightly broken: The list shows three entries without an icon or name (just an empty rectangle with a switch to the right).

Perhaps my configuration is broken? Is there a way to completely reset the location service's config? (Working from terminal would be okay.)

To be certain we talk about the same app:
This is a regular install of OTA13 on an MX4. The scope is called "NearBy Aggregator Scope", version 4.0.0, last update 19.11.2015 in the official app store. There are two comments about it having stopped working with OTA12, so the problem might have been introduced there.

Hi Rüdiger,

The store seems to have an older version of the Nearby Scope. OTA13 should have had 4.9.1, but the store, as you pointed out, has 4.0.0.

Please install the attached 4.9.1 nearby scope and write a bug comment with results.

In case you did not notice, every scope has its own Settings, accessed from the scope itself at the top right by tapping the small gear icon. There you can enable/disable location for the scope. Please ensure this is enabled for any scope that has the location message you discussed.

FYI: I filed a bug to update the agg scopes in the store: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-scopes-project/+bug/1636224

Am I OK to add a quick 'me too' to this? I installed the Nearby Scope 4.9.1 click as suggested but all it's displaying is the message to tell me to turn Location Services on.

Strangely the Weather Channel scope picks up my location just fine (and displays in the Today scope) but doesn't show anything in Nearby.

None of the other associated scopes display any further information than the No location found error - tested Yelp, Places, Nearby Articles, Points of interest, Songkick - not sure what others use location so these are the only ones I tried. The Location indicator glows white when I open any of these scopes, or when I refresh the Nearby scope.

I'm using a Nexus 4 with OTA-13 freshly-flashed (as opposed to upgraded from 12) - not sure if that makes any difference!
