The design from #7 is our target goal and it is surley a little to advanced for the next version of Mixxx.
I have attached a draft for the first step. It does only include the preview player, has room for extensions and it is on the track to the goal.

I have also included an alternative for the vertical tabs, which were disliked on mix-devel.
