I love simplicity and your drafts are looking nice.

Do you plan to use pop up windows?
That might not a good idea since this should be able to control by DJ controllers using arrow keys and jog wheels.

I think the difficulty of this project is focus on the daily DJ Us cases, but allow also crazy new features, without clutter the GUI. Maybe you should tell the story how the GUI will be used.

Btw: We did our drafts with Inkscape.
