I don't understand why you think adding a meter for the Record/Broadcast input would be a big feature creep. It just requires adding an EngineVumeter to EngineMaster, finding a place to show it in the skins (probably next to the recording and broadcasting buttons), and adding a tooltip.

Yes, there is a big difference that would make your proposal very confusing. The auxiliary inputs are for adding another source to Mixxx's master mix. The Record/Broadcast input is not mixed in with the master mix or manipulated in any way by Mixxx. It is only forwarded to the recording and broadcasting encoders to avoid the need for running a separate program like BUTT or Audacity.
