We have made no progress in the original issue. But we have improved the Replay-Gain behaviour, by introducing the EBU R 128 (Replaygain 2) analysis.
This may work except that we should store the additional offset in an extra field, and not touch the RG value form the analysis.
The sudden gain change when storing the offset might be surprising for some users....
