If the user doesn't want the effect to fade out why does he/she turns the effect off in the first place?
The point of all this is to offer a way to turn an effect with an automatic gentle fade out. Either using the natural fade out of effects like echo (with feedback < 1) or by artificially lowering de output volume for effects that don't fade out by themselves.
